Description

Join local author Stew Thornley, member of the Halsey Hall Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research, in a discussion about Perry “Moose” Werden and one of HHM’s most interesting pieces of sports memorabilia. Werden was a record-setting home run hitter, one of the best know baseball players in the region through the 1920s, and continued to be a well-known “man about town” in the Twin Cities baseball scene throughout the first half of the 20th century. In 1933 Werden organized a benefit game for a fellow player and presented him with an oversized baseball bat autographed by several major league players and local sports legends, including football player and coach Joe Zalusky who went on to become the director of the Hennepin History Museum. The bat has been part of HHM’s collection for decades and has recently gained popularity and notoriety amongst fans of baseball history.
