Description

We invite you to a workshop that will encourage you to dig into your genealogy and discover more of your family’s history! Hennepin History Museum archivist Michele Pollard, who has helped museum visitors conduct genealogical research, as well as done a deep dive into her own family’s stories, will teach you how to search genealogy databases. Although many people think Ancestry.com is limited when it comes to African American genealogy, it has been adding more databases to its catalog of resources as they have become accessible.  In this workshop you will learn how to navigate Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, and the National Archives to find your African American ancestors

This workshop is the second in a series of programs to commemorate the designation of Minneapolis’s Pioneers & Soldiers Cemetery as part of the National Park Service’s Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program. It is sponsored by Hennepin History Museum, Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery, and Pioneers & Soldiers Cemetery.
